Good Samaritan Makes Wrong Turn, Saves IA Family From House Fire

Oct. 29, 2022
Residents said they were alerted by the man's pounding on windows, not smoke alarms.

A man who made a wrong turn wound up saving four siblings from their burning home.

Brendon Birt said when he saw the flames on the front porch of the Red Oak home, he immediately called 911.

Realizing that someone may be in the house, he started beating on windows.

The Ring camera showed the ever-growing fire as well as the three children and their 22-year-old brother escape.

The smoke alarms were not going off.

The parents were out of town. Their mother says the man who saved them is "family now."
